CURRENT SERIES: Hello, My Name Is...

Our first-borns were twin boys, and my wife and I really struggled over what to name them. The first-born was named after both of our fathers ("Thomas Vernon"), but the second born's name became a battle. I (Keith) always loved the name "Hunter," my wife hated the name. When we found out that we were having twin boys, she agreed that the second boys middle name could be Hunter,… "Andrew Hunter." We now call him Hunter and my wife has grown to love the name (and it is the perfect name for my wild rambunctious younger twin son).

Names are important. When we meet a person, usually our first question is "What's your name?" Most of us actually have several names that we respond to. In most cases, people call me "Keith." When I used to coach football, my players called me "Coach K." I've been called "Mr. Walatka" at times, and "Pastor Keith" on a few occasions (never have been completely at ease with that!). My favorite name is "daddy" which only my 5 kids get to call me. I also have some nicknames that my wife calls me, like "knight in shining armor" (please don't ask her to confirm this, I'm betting that she doesn't read the website.).

Names and titles are important; they speak to relationships. And God has revealed Himself in scripture through many different names. Knowing and responding to God's names impacts our worship (Ps 8:1), can bring us peace (Pr. 18:10), develops trust (Ps. 9:10), brings confidence (Ex.3:13), and is to be taken seriously (Ex. 20:7).

Riverside will be going through 9 of the over 200 names for God in the Bible starting on Easter Sunday. We will be using Psalm 23 as a guide for this adventure.
