Read John 2:13-25
(For history on Passover read Exodus 12)

  • Why do you think Jesus gets so angry?
  • God institutes the yearly Passover Festival to help the Jewish people remember His faithful protection and provision of them. When have you seen the Lord provide and protect you in this past year? What can you do to help remember?

Write a one sentence summary of Chapter 2.

About Passover:

The book of Exodus tells us how Moses was sent by God to be the deliverer of His people out of the land of Egypt where they had become enslaved. Pharaoh does not agree to let the people leave, and thus begins a showdown between the gods of Egypt and the one true God. The tenth and final plague that would descend was a terrible judgment of death upon the firstborn. The only houses that would be spared were those that painted the blood of an unblemished lamb on their doorposts. This festival was to be celebrated yearly to help the Israelites remember how the Lord had saved them out of slavery. Passover occurs in the first month of the Jewish religious calendar, the month of Nisan, corresponding to March, April, or May on our calendar. Think about this imagery each time you read throughout this book when Jesus is referred to as “the Lamb of God.”
