Most modern approaches to learning are heavy on content and light on actually doing anything. Yet, research is showing that effective learning requires not only good content but also frequent practice and safe ways to receive/give feedback. Jesus taught through an apprentice model that allows for more active learning and practicing (Luke 9:1-6, 10-11).

At Riverside, we strive to teach in an apprentice model that balances content along with practices and experiences. We also attempt to create an open and safe community environment that fosters giving and receiving feedback, as this open communication is vital to both personal and community growth.

We call this the "apprentice model”- a balance of content, practices, and feedback - and we use it in our sermons, home group discussions, learning communities, kid’s and student ministries, and daily devotionals.
