Wednesday 5/24

  • Read John 20: 11-18

So Mary had gone back with the two men, they leave, but she remains in tears.

What can we glean about the faith of Mary from these verses?

What can we surmise about Jesus when He first reveals Himself to a lone woman?

Tuesday 5/23

  • Read John 20: 1-10

I love that a woman is the first to discover the missing body of Jesus. She comes so early in the morning that it is still dark. I picture her waiting and waiting for the end of the Sabbath so that she is free to run to the tomb.

The ‘other disciple’ who reaches the tomb first, “believes”. But then verse 9 goes on to tell us that they did not understand that Jesus had to rise from the dead. What do you think he ‘believed’?

In keeping with immersing ourselves in the narrative—what are these two men feeling and thinking in these moments?

Monday 5/22

Read John 20:1-21:25

What do we learn about who God or Jesus is from these chapters?

What do we learn about us as people from this?

This week, we will finish the book of John. This will leave us a week to review the Sermon on the Mount as we finish up that preaching series!

Sunday 5/21

Spend some time this morning praying and resting with the Lord.

Anticipate worship together this morning.

Saturday 5/20

  • Read John 19

Try to condense chapter 19 into one sentence. Write it on a separate piece of paper or a journal

What are the 2 things you will remember most from this chapter?

Friday 5/19

  • Read John 19: 38-41

Joseph and Nicodemus prepare Jesus’ body for burial. He began His life with a gift of myrrh, and ends being anointed with myrrh.

Why do you think Nicodemus, who visited Jesus under the dark of night previously, to publicly assist with this burial?

If you’ve ever been with someone who has recently died, there is a sacredness to all that space. Earth and the mortal touches the heavenlies.

How do you think these men are feeling? What are they thinking?

Thursday 5/18

  • Read John 19: 28-37

What is ‘finished’ when Jesus proclaims “it is finished”?

We’ve done a lot of imagining as we’ve walked through these final days of Jesus. This always helps me to make the story fresh in my mind.

Imagine being one of the soldiers assigned to break the legs. What are you thinking and feeling?

Jesus seems in control of Himself to the end when He ‘gives up His Spirit’. He knowingly went to the cross.

Spend some time in thankful prayer for all that Jesus did.
