Saturday 9/17/22

  • Read Hebrews 1: 14

Humbly ask for the Spirit’s help to grow through the word.

  • Read also Galatians 3: 26-4: 7

We are heirs of the God of the universe. He calls us His children. We can call Him ‘dad’.

  • What do you imagine inheriting from your heavenly Father?

We all inherit things from our family of origin or the people who raised us. Habits. Traits. Behaviors. Ways of speaking. Sinful tendencies. Character.

  • What are some pieces of your adult self that you inherited from your earthly family that you rejoice in?
  • What have you worked to change?
  • Since becoming a believer, how have you seen the Holy Spirit transform you to resemble God’s family more than your family of origin?

Friday 9/16/22

  • Read Hebrews 1: 10-13

Stop and pray for wisdom from the Spirit.

  • In the continued description of the Father, what stands out to you?
  • Where have you been hurt or impacted by someone’s fickle, changeable opinion of you?
  • How does it impact you, in your life right now, to know that He is unchanging? He remains the same.

Thursday 9/15/22

  • Read Hebrews 1: 5-9

Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you today. How is the Son differentiated from the angels in these verses?

What are some of the ways that Jesus is described?

I love the picture of verse 9: Jesus, in His full humanity, rejecting the evil offered to Him and turning towards righteousness, and God the Father anointing Him with joy! I can only imagine the delight of the Father as Jesus walk and lived here. In what ways do you see yourself heading towards righteousness?

The following link is a Bible Project video discussing angels and cherubim—really interesting!

Wednesday 9/14/22

  • Read Hebrews 1: 3-4

Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through these words.

The author spends a while discussing Jesus’ supremacy to that of the angels.

  • How is Jesus described here?
  • What does it mean to you personally that Jesus is the exact representation of God the Father’s whole being?
  • Why do you think the author tells us that Jesus sits down?

Reflect back on the time when you were “purified from your sins.” Spend some time being thankful for this purification. (If this is something you are confused about or unsure for yourself—please reach out to Keith, Andrew, or one of the elders—they would love to sit and talk!)

Tuesday 9/13/22

  • Read Hebrews 1: 1-2

Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through His word.

As I was listening to Hebrews to prepare to write these, I was blown away by this these couple of sentences. God has spoken to us!

  • Read also John 1: 1-4

  • What do we learn about God from these verses? What strikes you?
  • In your own life, how does God communicate with you?
  • In what ways would you like to hear more from the Father?

As we start this series, let’s take some time to just sit and “be” with the Father. Ask Him to speak to you personally as you sit quietly.

Monday 9/12/22

I’m excited to launch into this study of the Book of Hebrews. As has been our practice in the past, we will watch a Bible Project video for an overview!

As you are listening, jot some of the things that stand out to you on a separate piece of paper.

As we are spending this time in Hebrews, I wanted to include the link from the most recent sermon series through Hebrews. Check out some of these old sermons for more!
