Darkness to Light

Scripture References: Isaiah 9:1-2

From Series: "Advent 2021"

For the seasons of Advent and Christmastide we will be walking through the rich lyrics of the song, "O Come, O Come Emmanuel." Make no mistake, we are not elevating a song to the level of Scripture, but the words of this hymn are filled with the themes of Advent and anchored in the words of the prophet Isaiah and other Biblical writers. It is a song of longing—the people of Israel are imprisoned (captive), and in need of freedom (ransom). Israel is mourning and in exile, far from their true home, and their only hope is Emmanuel—God with us. The song captures the hope and anticipation of a people longing for the Messiah—and here we are, people of that Messiah Jesus, continuing to long and wait for even more of His presence, and ultimately for his return in glory.
