Our Mission

our mission

Our mission is to Know Jesus intimately. Be transformed by the Spirit. Do mission with God... Together

Or the short version: Know. Be. Do… Together

One of the clearest explanations of this from Bible is found in Colossians 1:9-10.

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, (NIV)

KNOW

Not just knowing about Jesus, but knowing Him personally, intimately, and deeply. This is also about knowing the scriptures, knowing the voice of the Holy Spirit, even knowing yourself. “to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives […] growing in the knowledge of God”  Colossians 1:9-10

BE

Becoming more like Jesus. This is about our character, heart, motivations, passions, and convictions changing as the Holy Spirit transforms us. “so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way”  Colossians 1:10a  (also see Romans 12:2).

DO

As we grow in knowing Jesus and being transformed, we will naturally DO mission with God (living and loving like Jesus). Some broad categories around “DO” are evangelism, justice, and service. “bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God” Colossians 1:10b

TOGETHER

We do this together, it’s that simple (but not necessarily easy). “we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you ...” Colossians 1:9

Also notice how "bearing fruit in every good work” then yields more “growing in the knowledge of God.”

In other words, though Know. Be. Do... Together are four distinct words, they are deeply interconnected.

Firm Foundation

Scripture References: John 20:1-18

From Series: "Firm Foundation"

In this season of a global pandemic, where people are being ordered to stay at home and "social distance" as a way to help stop or at least delay the spread of Covid-19, we as a church are going to be talking about how to have a firm foundation in the midst of it all. Let's be honest, there are plenty of things to be nervous and anxious about, even fearful about. So ensuring that we as a church and as individuals have our lives on a firm foundation is paramount (this is always true, it's just more evident when other potential foundations like health and the economy are visibly breaking down). Jesus, at the end of His most famous sermon, as He was wrapping up, gave the charge, "everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." In this series we will be looking at how to have our life founded on the solid rock that is Jesus, as well as how to put our faith "into practice like a wise man or woman." We do this together, even as we are separated in our homes and apartments because of a pandemic. Know that you are loved by the elders and leaders of the church, and if you need anything in this season, please reach out to us. We are praying for our church and we are ready to respond however needed. You are loved by God and by us! - Riverside Elders and Pastors
