Tuesday 3/14

  • Read John 9: 1-12

Has anything in your life or the life of someone close to you made you wonder if it was a result of sin? How can you relate to the disciples’ questions?

How have you seen Jesus heal you—physically, emotionally, or other?

Why do you think this man has such an understated response?

Monday 3/13

  • Read John 9

What pops out to you as you read through this chapter?

Is there anything confusing or hard?

Sunday 3/12

Jesus makes a lot of claims about Himself in this chapter.

Spend some time writing out a description of who Jesus is to you, in your life and experience.

Try to write in a narrative instead of bullet points—research shows that we retain more of what we tell in story form.

Saturday 3/11

  • Read John 8

If you had to condense this chapter to one sentence, write out that sentence on a separate piece of paper or in a journal.

  • What are the 2 things you will remember most from this chapter?

Friday 3/10

  • Read John 8: 31-58

What does Jesus claim about Himself in these verses?

What does He tell them about themselves in these verses?

What have you learned about who the Father is based on Jesus’ witness?

How have you seen God’s truth set you free in your own life?

Thursday 3/9

  • Read John 8: 12-30

How has Jesus been a light to you—internally as well as externally?

What does Jesus claim about Himself in these verses?

What does He tell them about themselves in these verses?

What have you learned about who the Father is based on Jesus’ witness?

 Wednesday 3/8

  • Read John 8: 1-11

Many Bibles include a footnote stating that many of the early manuscripts do not include this passage, or it is out of place. Nonetheless, its inclusion here has much to teach us!

  • What do you notice as curious or disturbing in this passage?
  • Why do you think only the woman is brought to Jesus (the Law would demand both parties be executed)?
  • The question being a trap, how is Jesus’ response surprising?
  • In light of what we’ve been learning in the Sermon on the Mount on Sundays, how is Jesus elevating the Law in this instance?
  • What observations can you make about Jesus’ value for women?
