Wednesday 9/21/22

  • Read Hebrews 2: 14-18

When it says “made like His brothers in every way”—what do you think of? What is surprising about ‘every way’?

How have you seen Jesus to be merciful to you?

How about faithful?

Spend some time in prayer (another practice) expressing thankfulness to Jesus for all that He went through being made completely human and completely subject to painful temptation.

Tuesday 9/20/22

  • Read Hebrews 2: 5-13

Seek the Spirit’s leading as you read.

A friend shared with me the other day that she was looking at satellite pictures of earth from out in the universe. Realizing how small the earth, and us, are in comparison to all of creation.

  • How do you see in your own life that God cares for you individually and uniquely?
  • Spend some time reflecting on verse 11 (the practice of meditation on scripture). What do you think the author is saying?
  • Jesus says that He is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters. Are there ways that you’ve been ashamed to name Him as yours?

Monday 9/19/22

  • Read Hebrews 2: 1-4

Pray and ask the Spirit to lead & guide you.

  • What are we paying attention to in the warning in verse 1?
  • What does it look like, in your own life, to drift?

I’ve loved the conversation on Sundays about a weekly practice to keep us anchored close to Jesus.

What are practices that you could put into place, or have in place, to combat the natural drifting?

Sunday 9/18/22

Spend some time this morning sitting quietly before the Lord preparing your heart for corporate worship. Listen to some music, pray, rest in the Father.

Journal about anything that comes to mind:

Saturday 9/17/22

  • Read Hebrews 1: 14

Humbly ask for the Spirit’s help to grow through the word.

  • Read also Galatians 3: 26-4: 7

We are heirs of the God of the universe. He calls us His children. We can call Him ‘dad’.

  • What do you imagine inheriting from your heavenly Father?

We all inherit things from our family of origin or the people who raised us. Habits. Traits. Behaviors. Ways of speaking. Sinful tendencies. Character.

  • What are some pieces of your adult self that you inherited from your earthly family that you rejoice in?
  • What have you worked to change?
  • Since becoming a believer, how have you seen the Holy Spirit transform you to resemble God’s family more than your family of origin?

Friday 9/16/22

  • Read Hebrews 1: 10-13

Stop and pray for wisdom from the Spirit.

  • In the continued description of the Father, what stands out to you?
  • Where have you been hurt or impacted by someone’s fickle, changeable opinion of you?
  • How does it impact you, in your life right now, to know that He is unchanging? He remains the same.

Thursday 9/15/22

  • Read Hebrews 1: 5-9

Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you today. How is the Son differentiated from the angels in these verses?

What are some of the ways that Jesus is described?

I love the picture of verse 9: Jesus, in His full humanity, rejecting the evil offered to Him and turning towards righteousness, and God the Father anointing Him with joy! I can only imagine the delight of the Father as Jesus walk and lived here. In what ways do you see yourself heading towards righteousness?

The following link is a Bible Project video discussing angels and cherubim—really interesting!
