WEDNESDAY (10/28/20)

These are hard words in this chapter. Remember to pause and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and show you truth!

Reread Romans 7:7-25

  • What is some of the “good” that you would like to see yourself doing right now, but aren’t doing it?
  • Describe some of the war inside of you right now? In what areas of your life is the good & the evil going “toe to toe?”
  • How does this war tend to make you feel?
  • From what we’ve learned in Romans thus far, how would you answer Paul’s gut wrenching question in verse 24?

WEEK 3 MEMORY VERSE:
ROMANS 7:24

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

TUESDAY (10/27/20)

Read Romans 7:7-25

  • Grab a piece of paper and write a one sentence summary for the tension Paul is expressing in this section.
  • The Law showed us what was sin (v. 7). Ideally, the Law should lead us to life as we obey the good commands set before us. Easy, right? Not exactly! Paul says that sin “seized the opportunity” in verse 8. How does this work in your own words? What opportunity did sin seize?
  • Elsewhere, Peter explains that satan is like a roaring lion – prowling about wanting to devour and destroy us. This is a sobering picture to think of sin, through satan, seeking to ensnare me and destroy me. How have you seen this at work in your life? Where does sin take opportunity with you?

WEEK 3 MEMORY VERSE:
ROMANS 7:24

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

MONDAY (10/26/20)

We saw in Romans 5 that God was creating a new humanity in Jesus. Romans 6 explained that we are “alive in Christ.” Now in Romans 7, Paul answers the questions, “What the Law was for? What purpose did it serve? If God was going to redeem people to Himself through Jesus’ death and resurrection, why all the hoopla with the Law?”

Read Romans 7:1-6

  • Why do you think Paul uses a marriage illustration?
  • When you think back to before being “joined to Christ”- what is some of the “fruit of death” that you remember growing?
  • What fruit in your life now is evidence of your being a part of God’s family? How do you see yourself growing?

Sit and spend some time quietly, praying, and asking the Holy Spirit to show you how He has been at work in you, and also where He wants to work going forward.

WEEK 3 MEMORY VERSE:
ROMANS 7:24

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

SUNDAY (10/25/20)

Spend some time this morning praying prayers of thankfulness. Think through your week and ask the Holy Spirit to show you how He’s been involved in your days and moments. Journal the things that you are thankful for.

WEEK 2 MEMORY VERSE:
ROMANS 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

SATURDAY (10/24/20)

Reread all of Chapter 6 and do the Know, Be, Do method through the chapter!

Get out a piece of paper and answer these questions:

  • KNOW – What does the text say about God?
  • BE – What does the text say about us?
  • DO – What is the text calling me to do?

Write out the whole verse that you want to stick with you throughout the day today.

WEEK 2 MEMORY VERSE:
ROMANS 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

FRIDAY (10/23/20)

Read Romans 6:19-23

  • In the areas that you tend to be mastered by sin, what has been the benefit for you? I’m assuming we act in ways that we perceive will benefit us in some way.
  • Likewise, in areas where you see a desire for righteousness growing in you, how does that benefit you?

We all have things that we’ve done, said, or thought that we feel ashamed of now.

  • Who are you able to share those things with? For perspective? For accountability? For support? We all need people around us if we hope to walk faithfully!
  • Explain verse 23 in your own words.

WEEK 2 MEMORY VERSE:
ROMANS 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

THURSDAY (10/22/20)

Read Romans 6:15-18

  • Why should sin not characterize me as a person in the family of God?
  • Does this mean that I never sin?
  • What characterizes me as a son or daughter of the King?
  • Where have you seen your obedience lead to righteousness in your life?

WEEK 2 MEMORY VERSE:
ROMANS 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
